Robotics - Fall 2017
Thanks to a grant from Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, Peachtree City Girl Scouts was able to host two all-girl FIRST Lego League Teams! The teams started meeting in August, building the missions, choosing a research project and learning how to program a Lego EV3 robot. This is the third year that several of the girls have competed under the name the Rah Rah Robots. This year, we welcomed several new girls, and even added a younger, 5th grade team. This years theme was Hydrodynamics, and we learned all about the human water cycle.
The Rah Rah Robots Blue was our middle school team coached by Jennifer Vetter. Team members included Ainsley Carr, Anna Grace Fairrel, Cora Lanman, Omolola Rufai, Sienna Spear, Annelyse Venn and Reagan Vetter. For their project, the girls focused on how humans use water, and streamlined the process of making hot chocolate. Their product was a Stuffed Marshmallow Object, or SMO, that dissolved in water for a quick, mess free cup of hot chocolate. Here's a link to the video they produced: SMO's Video
The Rah Rah Robots Green was our 5th grade elementary team, coached by Misty Ottenberg. The team members included Alicia Buenos, Maia Ottenberg, Maggie Soper, Tess Van den Hoonard and Sydney Vetter. For their project the girls created a flyer to teach the public about rain barrels. The even made their own mascot - Phil the Rain Barrel.
Both teams competed on December 2nd. In addition to competing with the robot, each team met with three sets of judges - Project, Robot Design and Core Values. The girls had a great time, and we're looking forward to next year.

Slithery Reptile Adventure
Reptile Day Recap: Troop 15008 hosted Reptile Day on Saturday November 11th at the Scout Lodge. The reptiles came from My Reptile Guys, a local company that hosts events for kids. Our host, Brianna, led the girls through lessons with lizards, snakes and turtles. After the show the girls were able to take turns petting the animals and even holding a giant snake! We all made beaded lizard key chains, and shared ants on a log and dirt cups with worms for our snacks. The girls even hosted a creepy sensory station where volunteers felt inside a box to guess what the slimy substance was (spaghetti or banana peels). Troop 15008 would like to thank everyone who came out for an afternoon of creepy, slimy fun. For information about the show, visit www.myreptileguys.com.
Chicken-Que 2017
The Fundraiser for our Scout Lodge hosted by Peachtree City United Methodist Men was another great success. Girl Scout Service Unit 617, Boy Scout Pack 75, and Boy Scouts Troops 75 & 175 all assisted in various ways to prepare, cook and plate over 1500 chicken dinners this September. Troop 11318 prepared and scooped cole slaw, Troop 255 collected tickets and Troop 12306 plated all of those dinners. The money raised by the PTCUMM fundraiser goes towards capital costs at the Scout Lodge. A huge thank you for all those who organized and supported this event.
